Drug war may be restored by President Dutrete under the leadership of the police

The Philippine National Police (PNP) may once again take over the lead in the government’s war on drugs if the narcotic problem in the country continues to worsen.

This is the announcement made by President Rodrigo Duterte emphasizing that no one could stop his campaign against illegal drugs, not even United States President Donald Trump.

During his speech in Davao City, Duterte said: “If human rights [advocates] are thinking that Trump or whoever the human rights [advocates believe] can stop me, I’m sorry.”

“The drug problem, if it becomes worse again, the police has to enter the picture. I want it eradicated if possible,” he added.

It could be recalled that President Duterte ordered the PNP to withdraw from the anti-illegal drugs campaign after the police force drew international criticism for killing 3,900 people during the anti-drug operations in the past 15 months.

The PNP denied the said allegations citing that the deadly force in each case was caused by armed suspects who are violently resisting their arrest.

Because of this, the President gave the full responsibility of the drug war to the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency and PDEA Chief Aaron Aquino said that the intensity of war on drugs would be lessened in the absence of the police force.
