Former priest with US military case, arrested! CBCP, silent in issue



After 15 years of being at large, authorities have finally arrested a former Filipino priest in the United States for allegedly molesting two minors in South Dakota.



According to GMA News report, the ex-priest was nabbed in Laguna 15 years after US court ordered his arrest.



Authorities said Fernando Laude Sayasaya left the US in 1998, four years after, in 2002, his warrant of arrest was released.

In an interview, Laguna Provincial Intelligence Chief Supt. Vic Cabatingan said:“Alam niya na papalabas na ‘yung warrant of arrest [so] nagpaalam siya dun sa Amerika. Nagpaalam siya dun na magbabakasyon siya sa Pilipinas.”



On July 30, 2010, the Manila Regional Trial Court released a counter warrant after the US Court of Extradition requested Sayasaya’s arrest due to child abuse charges.

According to Laguna police, Sayasaya has been changing his name and residence for the past 15 years until they received an intelligence tip on his whereabouts.



“Kaya nga nagkaroon tayo ng tracking dito. Nagkaroon tayo ng validation  sa address na binigay sa warrant of arrest, wala siya dun. So trinack-down natin kasi may mga kakilala siya, hanggang ma-landing natin sa Barangay Looc, Calamba City,” Cabatingan said.



After his arrest, the ex-priest was brought to Manila for extradition to the US where he is facing two counts of gross sexual imposition filed by brothers Hugo Zamarron and Pablo Zamarron.
