Major telco providers kabahan na, mas mura at mabilis na internet sa bansa, mararamdaman na sa 2019...

The days of major internet provider are now numbered after the Duterte administration signed a partnership that aims to provide an affordable ultra high-speed internet similar to what South Korea and Singapore provide.

According to the recent Facebook post of social media blogger RJ Nieto also known as Thinking Pinoy, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) signed a Landing Party Agreement (LPA) with Facebook and Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) which will provide an improved speed and affordable internet access to the Filipinos.

BCDA President Vince Dizon said “The system is expected to be on line at the end of 2019 and will provide speeds comparable to that of Singapore, Japan and South Korea.”

Under the said agreement, Facebook is the one in charge to “construct, develop, operate, maintain and secure the submarine cable system, originating from the United States, crossing the Pacific Ocean to Luzon and then onwards to Hong Kong,” while DICT is in charge of operating and maintaining the said facility.

Meanwhile, the BCDA is in charge of building the Luzon Bypass Infrastructure (LBI) which will highlight the geographical advantage of the country as it will provide a terrestrial bypass route to the international submarine cable owners.

“In exchange for the using the LBI, Facebook will provide the Philippine government 2 million MBPS which is almost equivalent to the total bandwidth of the 2 major telecommunications companies combined.”

The availability of faster and affordable internet is one of the solutions being pushed by the Duterte administration in his 10-point agenda which also includes other programs that aims to lessen poverty, stimulate growth and development, and create more jobs throughout the country.
