The 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Meetings currently happening in the country was hosted by no less than President Rodrigo Duterte.
With good faith, leaders from all over the world traveled all the way to the Philippines in order to discuss economic and cultural development of Southeast Asian countries as well as to strengthen the ties and bond of each country.
But despite the good intentions of the leaders coming to the Philippines, militant groups are still there to ruin everything by the means of what they do best, gather in the streets and held a mass protest.
Yesterday, as the historical ASEAN summit unfolds in our country, several group of rallyists including members of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) and other militant groups including Gabriela, Anakpawis, Kabataan, Act Teachers, KMP, KMU, Anakbayan, Migrante, Katribu, Kadamay, and Sandugo gathered at Padre Faura Street in Manila to voice out their sentiments.
Police force blocked their way as they are planning to march all the way to Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City where President Duterte, U.S. President Donald Trump, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and the other ASEAN leaders are present for a dialogue meeting.
During the protesters’ program at Padre Faura Street, one regular citizen who is working in the establishment in the nearby area slammed the solution to their problem right in their very faces.
According to Facebook user Eljohn Mark Lelis Licup, protesters gathered in the street across the building where he works are shouting on the top of their lungs about their sentiments against the government.
One of the sentiments that they are voicing out is having no available jobs despite the government’s promise to provide them employment.
Because of this, Licup who is also a working citizen paying his own taxes could not help but shout back at the protesters slamming them the awful truth that they could never face.
Licup narrated how his short exchange with protesters went on, read his post below:
Because of this very witty response, Licup’s post immediately went viral online. Some netizens also expressed their sentiments against the rallyist, read some of their comments below:
