Spox Harry Roque rides on the MRT, considered an early netizens campaign

Netizens were not pleased with Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque’s MRT (Metro Rail Transit Line 3) ride on Thursday, November 23, 2017.

Most of the netizens took to social media to lambast Roque’s move, some claim that it is an obvious PR stunt for his Senatorial candidacy in 2019.

Netizens said that Roque’s PR stunt complete with security detail and members of the media covering his antics only worsen the everyday burden of MRT commuters.

According to Roque, the MRT ride was “not that bad”. It could be recalled that the Presidential spokesperson earlier offered to ride the train at least once a week to better understand the sentiments of commuters.

Because of this, netizens challenged Roque to ride the train during rush hour on a daily basis without security details or even media so he could try to feel the plight of commuters.

Read some of their comments below:

Roque and his crew arrived at MRT North Avenue station at past 9 in the morning which is the off-peak hour, the aspiring Senator also experienced buying ticket and squeezing in to the platform.

“Ang pila talaga, paikot-ikot. Hindi na nga ito rush hour, 1/4 kilometer pa yata yung pila. So I could imagine na kapag rush hour na paikot-ikot na parang ahas, baka isang kilometro nga ang pila,” Roque said.

While inside the train, Roque also managed to talk to some passengers.

“Kasi ang problema talaga dito, hindi naman ‘yan sinimulan niyan ni President Duterte, pero hindi naman naghuhugas-kamay. Kaya nga tinakeover na ng MRT ang maintenance,” he added.
